A MAC address is a hardware ID that every network connection on a device has. It looks like 4d:ae:33:09:4c:1d (sometimes written with dashes, or with no separators at all). We use it to recognize your devices on the network, so we often ask for it when registering a device or troubleshooting.
Wi-Fi and wired MAC addresses are different. A device that has both Wi-Fi and an Ethernet port has a separate MAC address for each. Send the Wi-Fi MAC address for a device that connects over Wi-Fi, and the wired (Ethernet) MAC address for a device plugged into the wall.
Phones, tablets and laptops: turn off the private address first
Most phones, tablets and many laptops now use a private or random MAC address that changes from network to network. Our network can't recognize an address that keeps changing, so turn this off for your property's network before you look up the MAC address. The steps below include where to do that. You can read more in My devices are disconnecting frequently or forcing me to log in every time.
iPhone and iPad
- Open Settings > Wi-Fi.
- Tap the (i) next to your property's network.
- Set Private Wi-Fi Address to Off.
- The MAC address is the Wi-Fi Address shown on the same screen.
Android
- Open Settings > Network & internet (on Samsung: Connections) > Wi-Fi.
- Tap the gear icon next to your property's network.
- Under Privacy (on Samsung: View more > MAC address type), choose Use device MAC (on Samsung: Phone MAC).
- The MAC address is listed on the same network details screen.
Menu names vary a little by phone brand. If you can't find these options, look for Advanced or View more in the network's settings.
Windows
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi (or Ethernet for a wired connection).
- If Random hardware addresses is on, turn it off.
- Select Hardware properties. The MAC address is listed as Physical address (MAC).
Mac
- Open System Settings > Wi-Fi and click Details next to your property's network. If you see Private Wi-Fi address, set it to Off.
- Open System Settings > Network, select Wi-Fi (or Ethernet), click Details and open the Hardware tab. The MAC address is listed there.
Game consoles
- PlayStation 5: Settings > System > System Software > Console Information.
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings.
- Nintendo Switch: System Settings > Internet. The MAC address is at the bottom of the screen.
Smart TVs, streaming devices and other devices
Look in the device's settings under Network or About (often Network status). Many smart devices also print the MAC address on a label on the device or its box. If you still can't find it, search online for "MAC address" plus your device's make and model.
What to do with it
You can register a device yourself by logging in to your property's registration portal (the address is in your setup email), opening Devices, entering the MAC address and clicking Add. Or send it to us in your support request and we'll register it for you.
